GIRL FORCE: UNSCRIPTED AND UNSTOPPABLE (A PERSONAL LETTER TO ALL GIRLS)

I have always been passionate about girl child empowerment, education and the fight for gender equality which is why since 2017 I have been lending my voice and writings to this course. I would have loved to make a video with a few girl child advocates or even collaborate with NGOs working on this course but my schedules lately have been really occupying and highly demanding. Having said that, this day can’t go without an obligatory post.

This year's theme is GIRL FORCE: UNSCRIPTED AND UNSTOPPABLE. The day aims to celebrate achievements by, with and for girls since the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action.

It is not just about providing them with education, but also about giving them equal opportunities and removing restrictions which don't exist for young boys.

I share the views of UN Secretary-General António Guterres, "We need to uphold the equal rights, voices and influence of girls in our families, communities, and nations. Girls can be powerful agents of change, and nothing should keep them from participating fully in all areas of life."

Girl children have always been disadvantaged in most parts of the world due to gender inequality and the ancient mentality that boys are more superior. This has gone on for so long and sadly even up till now in many African homes, the girl children are still regarded as irrelevant. Our society celebrates male children to a point that they fail to regard the achievements of girls. Despite all the feminism movements, many have refused to accept that there is a psychological effect that these actions have on females. Today, the world is battling all these factors to ensure that there’s a change in the narrative, however, it’s not a fight for a few every one of us has a role to play in it.

To everyone raising a girl child, never fail to let her know that she’s not inferior to the boys. (I am saying this because for a long time while growing up I felt that way) Please teach her to be confident, to always speak up and stand up for herself. Let the girl know that she's enough, she has all it takes to excel and there's no need to hold back. Educate her about the fight for gender equality and when she’s older the demand for equal pay. Make her embrace the fact that she should be respected. Motivate her to break boundaries, instill good values and give her the liberty to take charge of her own future. Above all, let her know that she's deserving of every good thing that she achieves.

YOU CAN BE A GIRL CHILD ADVOCATE. All you need to do is to contribute to this movement by joining the fight against discrimination towards the girl-child at all levels. Let’s strive for a world where all girls have access to a good education without being asked to compromise their personal values. Let’s speak with one voice to break the vicious cycle of girl child exploitation, rape, child labor all forms of violence against girls, genital mutilation, aids epidemic, child marriage, illiteracy, child trafficking, and so many others.  Let’s combat the cultural and religious practices that wage war against the freedom and rights of the girl child. Everything from child marriages, barbaric practices to female genital circumcision and many other militating issues. Let’s empower and assist as many Girl children as we can so that our community can truly become a safe haven for them.

“There is no greater pillar of stability than a strong, free, and educated woman.” The girl force is unstoppable -Angelina Jolie

Being a girl isn't a boundary that holds you back from achieving greatness.

A PERSONAL LETTER TO ALL GIRLS

Acknowledge the girl you are and the woman you are becoming, by taking every day as a gift and enjoying the relationships and situations you find yourself in.

So much is expected of you and that is okay, you won't be in the comfort of your home at all times and this is also a time to learn leadership skills and the ability to navigate relationships during tough times. Please, dear, girls do not forget to let your younger ones see the real YOU. It is okay to let them know that you struggle also, for they will love and support you always.

Find YOU! If there’s nothing you will take away from this letter; take away this – “FIND YOU AT ALL COST!”.

Many people will disagree with the YOU that you are becoming, sometimes even family might disagree. But if you stick with YOU, loving others but never compromising; things will come around. But if you compromise ‘YOU’ for people; your life will be filled with imitations of others and great unhappiness.

I found ME and I am not apologetic about it, for my voice is found in the authenticity of me.

Trust God and have a personal relationship with him.

Finally, learn from your mistakes; please don’t fall into depression when things don't go as planned. It's all a stepping stone to greater heights. I celebrate and believe so much in you.

Girls are proving they are unscripted and unstoppable. Here is my ode to those girls, ladies, and women inspiring, glass-ceiling shattering, overall MVPs! These women tell us how to strive for all that we want! THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

Today, I am reaffirming my support for quality education and empowerment for girl children all across the world. To every girl child I say: keep being unstoppable!

SOAR GIRLS! SOAR!! YOU ARE UNSTOPPABLE!!!

Kindly leave a comment for girls that will be reading this post. Encourage them and cheer them.
