BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

Other than skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer among women. This month, October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. I am imploring us all (irrespective of gender) to promote healthy living and breast cancer awareness.

Studies show that 1 in 8 women have cancer and 1 in 25 women will die from breast cancer in Nigeria. The beautiful thing is, despite all these, there are survival tales and with early detection and adequate education, we can fight cancer together.

I am looking to partner with hospitals or clinics or foundations to conduct free breast exams. Please do let me know if you have an idea about any.

Thank you in anticipation of your favorable response.

In the meantime, I'll be sharing two ways to reduce the risk of breast cancer;

1.Perform monthly breast examination
   *7 to 10 days after your period
   *At the same time every month if you do not have your period anymore

2. Have a clinical breast exam with a physician.

WARNING SIGNS
1. A lump, hardness or thickening
2. Swelling, warmth, redness or change in color
3. A change in size or shape
4. Dimpling or puckering of the skin
5. An itchy scaly sore or rash on the nipple
6. Pulling in of the nipple or other parts of the breast
7. Nipple discharge
8. New pain in one spot that does not go away.
